Cards, cash and ATMs in Korea: what works for tourists

Where foreign cards work in Korea, why to carry a physical card and some cash, and how to find a Global ATM.

Money & cards

Physical cards work almost everywhere, including taxis. Apple Pay works only at shops with contactless terminals and Google Pay is not officially supported, so bring a physical card. Keep some cash for markets, street food and T-money top-ups.
Look for “Global ATM” signs in convenience stores and banks to withdraw with a foreign card.
Tipping is not expected.
