Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival

Step into 6,000 years of history at Seoul's only prehistoric culture festival, where ancient Amsa-dong comes alive across three days of performances, parades, and immersive experiences.

What it is

The Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival is celebrating its 30th edition this October, marking 100 years since the discovery of the Archaeological Site in Amsa-dong. The festival brings prehistoric Seoul to life through creative programming that blends history with modern celebration, all under the theme "The Breath of 6,000 Years, the Light of 100 Years, the Echoes of 30 Years."

What to expect

The festival grounds are split into four themed zones inspired by water, fire, earth, and wind—each with its own displays, hands-on activities, and performances. Over three days, you'll catch everything from opening and closing ceremonies to a drone show, street parade, singing contest, and a reenactment of traditional Bawijeol Maeul Hosang Nori, plus closing fireworks.

Good to know

The festival runs from 10:00 to 22:00 daily and is completely free to enter. It takes place at the Archaeological Site in Amsa-dong in Gangdong-gu, so you'll have plenty of time to explore across the three days.
